Platinum Scraps was originally launched February of 2010 as a vision of several friends who met on the Cricut Message board who wanted to venture out into creating, sharing, and showcasing the many talents each of us possess. Platinum Scraps showcases the diversity in scrapbooking and features designers from all walks of life. To keep the tradition going, each week our design team is challenged to create a unique layout or card based on a sketch that exemplifies their skills and talents. We hope that we inspire your creations and we appreciate your continued love and support as we grow together.

What A Great Start

First and foremost, the team would like to say thanks to all the men and women, past and present who at some point have defended our country by serving in one of our country's Armed Forces.  Without your dedication, this great country would not be as safe as it is.  Again, thanks for your dedication and time of service.

Jojorenee starts off the week with a beautiful birthday card.  The colors are bold and bright. The butterflies are popping off the card.

Join us each day as our designer's showcase their talent with a card sketch from cardabilities.blogspot.com

Remember it's easy to showcase your project.  After you have completed your card, come back to Platium Scraps and upload your project using the simply linked widget below.

Don't forget to come back tommorrow to view another designer's take on this sketch.

Love Rocks

Love Rocks was created by tsrel

She Said....

I was super excited to have the opportunity to visit my daughter this week in Lafayette, Louisiana.  That meant that I could visit my favorite scrap store, Treasured Memories.  I knew exactly what pictures I wanted to scrap, but had no paper in my stash.  Yes, for those of you who are saying no way she didn't have any paper, believe it, I have plenty of paper, but none to match the photos.

This layout is my daughter, Tiffany and her future, maybe, lol fiance, Herman.  Our town has added a beautiful waterfall landscape to the downtown area and we all love it.  These photos were taken one Sunday evening.

In my haste to finally be able to visit with my friends at TM, I forgot to gather up the information for products used.  The store opens up at 10 a.m. and I will re-take the photo and add the ingredients.  The picture really doesn't do this layout any justice.  I popped the flagstone in various places and it added so much dimension.  I cut the My Mind's Eye paper in strips then weaved the wood.

We are always wanting to see our followers create a project from our sketch.  If you want to participate in this week's layout challenge and would like to view the sketch, click here,  then upload your project using the simply linked widget below.

So Happy When We're Together Like This

So Happy When We're Together Like This by Jojorenee.  I must add that when she joined the design team she said, I don't do two page layouts.  Well, don't you think she knocked this one out of the park?

Jojorenee said "It's been so long since I've done a two page layout.  I was really frightened I would not complete it." Last Thursday night I had a dream and I couldn't wait until Friday night to put the layout out on the table.  Though I had different photos in the dream, looking through my album I found these and thought they'd suit the layout better.  Part of the problem is I do not print my photos at home so I usually do not have them in different sizes and/or a whole bunch of different shots.  I can remember the days when it killed me not to use multiple photos on a layout.  I thought it was such a waste to do one photo or one page.  Which do you like doing better?

I hope that our visitors today give the sketch a try and show us what you can do.  As always, you can preview the sketch here, create your project, then upload it using the simply linked widget at the bottom of the post.

I Love You

Princess wraps up the week with this beautiful "I Love You" card.  The colors in the papers are soft and feminine.  Her use of words truly do reflect what love means to many of us.  What would a card be without a little bling?  Bling makes the heart grow and if not it does make a project look beautiful.  LOL.

So Happy

On day three of our layout challenge, tsrel created a beautiful layout.  Many times we express our love for each other thru words, sometimes, thru good deeds, but in this photo, the love is captured in the look.  Symone and Herman have that special love.

She is a very active little girl that keeps you on your toes.  You can't help but love her because she says and does things that catch you off guard.  Your first thought is where in the world did she get that from.

Please enjoy today's project created from this week's sketch.  Feel free to view the sketch here, create your project and add it to our page using the simply linked widget below.

Super Star Layout

Are you ready for some football? This super cute layout gets you ready. Here in Louisiana we sleep, eat, and breathe football. Phillyscraps has made me anxious for preseason.

This little guy certainly looks up to the task of blocking a few players.  I love the color palette of the Echo Park line.  The colors contrast perfectly with the Kraft cardstock.  It brings the attention full circle to the photo and the bold colors of the pattern papers.

Remember that each week we would love to see your take on the sketch.  This week's sketch may be viewed here then upload your project using the simply linked wizard below.

Monday Madness

Hello bloggers.  What a weekend!  I sure hope you had a great time with it being National Scrapbook Weekend and all.  Last week we had some wonderful projects for our free for all week.  I sure did enjoy all of the projects.

This week is layout challenge week.  We kick off the week with a sketch courtesy of http://sketchythursdays.blogspot.com.  I love the simplicity of the design.  It is a Clean and Simple Sketch.

Ms. JoJorenee  leads the week off with her take on the sketch.  She has made a splash with bold colors and great use of pattern papers.  You have to look closely to see the journaling.  It says everything a child would want to tell a wonderful Dad.

As always, please take the challenge, create a  project from the sketch, and upload it using the Simple Linked widget below.

Week in Review

As the free for all week comes to an end, I would like to thank each designer that participated.  I love when designer's take the skills that may have started out with simple crafting and combine them with other skills to create new and exciting projects.

We went from Vinyl on Day 1 to Digital Images on Day 2.  On Day 3, we visited the home decor section with a lovely paper wreath.  I wonder if you can create one that is Black and Gold?  Hint, Hint.  Then on Day 4, we were graced with bookmarks for a book club.  All I can say is that when I started this craft hobby I had no clue of the endless possibilities that were opened up.

Our next free for all is later in the year, but we hope to see more exciting projects at that time.  Thanks for always being loyal followers.  Be sure to join us Monday for our launch of layouts for the week.

Reading Is Fundamental

So far this week in our free for all design team challenge, we have received a  tutorial on vinyl, a beautiful layout featuring digital products, and a detailed tutorial on creating our very own tissue paper hanger.

As day four has come, you won't be disappointed either.  It is so good to see designers move outside the realm of traditional crafting to create new products that still fit in with crafting.

I can remember as a child in every library, those three words resonated everywhere.  It was key that we developed a  love for reading.  Today, designer Leialoha has brought that thought back to mind with these adorable book marks she has created for her book club members.  The bookmarks are a nice touch from your everyday bookmark.   I am sure her book club members will be thrilled at their next meeting when she presents the bookmarks.

Tissue Paper Wreath

Here is a simple craft that adds a touch of homemade goodness around the house just in time for Spring.
1. I started by cutting out a chipboard shape, I chose a heart but it could be anything you wish.
2. Next I stapled my folded ribbon to the chipboard to serve as the hanger.
3. Then I covered the chipboard with mod podge glue, working a small area at a time.
4. As I added the modge podge I crumpled a small stack of 2x2 inch squares of tissue paper (the smaller, the better) and placed them close together in the wet mod podge around the chipboard until the entire shape was covered.
5. Let the glue dry completely.
5. Next I decorated the sides with ribbon, a flower and a butterfly die cut and Viola, you have a beautiful yet inexpensive wreath to hang.
**Extra idea - the next time I make one I think that I am going to add tissue paper to both sides of the chipboard for a 3-d effect.

Day Two of Free for All

Today's post is brought to you by our very own Princess.  She has created a beautiful layout. The paper choices are bold and bright but not overpowering.  She explained that family can come from our bloodline which is normal, but that friends can also become family.

In this layout, she explains that yes, they are blood cousins, but they are sisters as well.  That is sisters in thru there sorority.  Relationships are formed in all walks of life.
