Platinum Scraps was originally launched February of 2010 as a vision of several friends who met on the Cricut Message board who wanted to venture out into creating, sharing, and showcasing the many talents each of us possess. Platinum Scraps showcases the diversity in scrapbooking and features designers from all walks of life. To keep the tradition going, each week our design team is challenged to create a unique layout or card based on a sketch that exemplifies their skills and talents. We hope that we inspire your creations and we appreciate your continued love and support as we grow together.

It's a Free for All Week!

April has 5 Mondays so here at Platinumscraps that means a Free for All week. This week you will see special projects that our design team has worked on outside of our normal card and layout sketches.

Take for instance the skills of Craftin' Curt. This super talented young man WOWed us last week with a pop-up card and today he kicks off the week with this specially decorated vinyl water bottle. Working with vinyl is so cool and as Curt says, "If the surface is smooth, VINYL IT!

See below for more tips from Curt and join us again tomorrow for another Platinum creation!
"Vinyl Water Bottle" - Craftin' Curt

Just remember:

1.Transfer Tape is a must. Clear contact paper will also work.
2. Take your time! It's not a race.
The end result will be much better if you work slowly when applying your vinyl to your vessel

Saturday Special Purple Pop-Up Card

The design team was extra hard at work this week! So much so that we have this special Saturday post from our own Craftin' Curt. Curt's interpretation of the sketch is spot on using bold colors and embellishments. But this card packs an extra punch because it a popup card. I can feel all of the love that went into making this card. There is still time for you to join in, just upload your creation based off of this week's sketch (that can be found here) using the Simply Linked widget below.

Twice as Nice on a Friday!

Woohoo! I love Fridays! Even if I don't get a thing done I just get excited knowing that it is Friday. And to celebrate we have not one but TWO cards to share with you from our Platinumscraps designers using this week's sketch that can be found here. First we have this très belle (that is the limit of the french I know, lol) Parisian themed card from Curlyloc Diva. Don't you just love the colors and the watermarked pattern papers.

"Tres Chic" - Curlyloc Diva

Papers

Next we have this feel good happy Birthday card from Tsrel. Keep reading as she shares her thoughts on creating this gorgeous card -
Tonya says:
"This week has certainly been just that for me; a challenge. I am one of the designer's on the team that can truly say I don't make cards at all."

Now don't get me wrong, I love cards, but I have no one to give them too. But as some teams members said once, it wouldn't be a challenge if you only create projects in your comfort zone. With that said, I readily jumped into the scrap room, after it was cleaned. It is hard to be creative when you have a mess everywhere. I created this card for my girlfriend who's birthday was actually last Thursday; better late than never. I did call before the card was made. With that said, I hope you like my take on this week's sketch.

Week in Review

This week our designers were few in number but their projects adequately made up for that. All three designer's interpretation of the sketch was completely different.  Isn't it fun to see just how you can start with a simple sketch and so different layouts or cards can be created from that one sketch.

Thanks as always to our loyal followers for coming by to view our designers take.  We thank your for your kind words and as always, encourage you to participate in our sketches along with our designers.  Remember you can create your take then link your blog to our page using our linked system at the end of the post.

Layout Sketch Challenge - "15"

Welcome Scrappers! This week our design team was challenged with a layout sketch from Sketchy Thursdays.

I think we would all agree that this sketch was out of our comfort zone but I am sure that you will love how each designer uses the sketch to inspire beautiful creations. You are invited to join us by linking up your sketch creation below, we look forward to seeing what you create! Today we have this awesome layout by Jojorenee.
Jojorenee says:

When I saw this sketch from Sketchy Thursdays   I was immediately frightened that I could do absolutely nothing with it! I panicked and I named it the circly thing.  Then as I looked at it over and over several ideas came to mind and one really stuck with me.  I had wanted to do a layout of my niece Keyandra who I call my first daughter because before I had one she was my world.  I also wanted to do a song I really loved by Five for Fighting -100 years because it mentions 15 in the song and Keyandra's 15th birthday was coming up.  I chose Echo Parks Happy Days because the soda pop and stuff seemed teen theme.  I got in my giddy scrap happy mood as it all came together and wha-la!!!

Isn't it amazing how everyone has their own interpretation of a sketch. Today's layout is from Tamika aka Phillyscraps. Don't forget that you can view this week's sketch here.

Tamika says:
Working with a two page sketch was definitely a challenge for me but I am truly happy with the results. I even had the chance to use a variety of alpha stickers.

Don't forget to use some of those tools in your stash. For the scalloped border I used my Miss Elizabeth's scalloped ruler template found at the dollar store years ago. I had to trace it on the opposite side of my pattern paper but the scallops were the perfect size for my layout.

Here Comes Trouble

Our designers are having a great time with this week's sketch (you can view the original sketch here). Today's layout comes from tsrel.  It features her granddaughter Kennedi.

                                                                          Tonya Says:

We should have called her Missouri, short for Show Me because she has to learn everything the hard way.  My son kept telling her don't get in the box.  That was to much like right for Ms. Symone.  After she got in the box, she couldn't get out.  As with her temperment, she got angry fast.  We never have a dull moment around her.
